Hertfordshire Schools Food and Farming Day 2025

Yesterday (01/07) officers from the Rural Operational Support Team (ROST) and the Harpenden Neighbourhood Policing Team attended the Hertfordshire Schools Food and Farming Day 2025 hosted by the Herts County Show Ground and organised by the Hertfordshire Agricultural Society. 

This event was aimed at school children from ages 9 to 11 about the journey of food from field to fork and around 1,500 pupils attended from schools across Hertfordshire. 

We took this opportunity to educate the school groups on the Countryside Code, the use of WhatThreeWords and the Animal Welfare Act. However, we think they much preferred being shown demonstrations on handcuffs, batons, our operational drone, public order kit/shields and sitting in our police truck! 

We shared our exhibitions tent with the East of England Ambulance Service and the Herts and Essex Air Ambulance and even had a special Royal visitor, The Duchess of Edinburgh, visit our stall and talk about the importance of youth engagement and rural matters.
