If you were in the city centre on Saturday afternoon (28 June) you might have seen a number of officers arresting a man. We know people like to know what’s going on, so we’ll update you. Earlier that day we received a report of a shop theft that had occurred on St Stephens Street. This was reported directly to us, and also via an app that some of our officers have on their phones which enables us to communicate with retailers across the city as part of our partnership approach to tackle retail theft and anti-social behaviour. One of our neighbourhood officers was out on foot patrols in the city centre when they came across the suspect of the reported theft. Subsequently officers arrested a 31-year-old man on White Lion Street. Upon arrest the man repeatedly swore at officers and in front of children and families that were nearby, and therefore he was also arrested for a public order offence. He was then taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was charged with theft from a shop and a public order offence and was remanded in custody. He appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court yesterday (30 June 2025) where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison. |
