Weekly Summary - Week of 23/06/2025

Time for the weekly summary from the Winchester City Neighbourhood Policing Team!

- PC Andrews and PCSO Leung attended the address of an elderly lady following a report of a suspicious incident overnight. Whilst they were there, the lady also disclosed that she had been a victim of a scam earlier on in the day resulting in her computer failing to boot up and years of personal files being deleted. Thankfully, with the help of PCSO Leung’s Computer Science degree, they were able to recover all of her personal files and restored her computer back to its original state from before the scam. Her banks have also been made aware and luckily, no money was taken out of her accounts due to the quick intervention.

- PC Jeffery has been busy interviewing suspects for the recent bike thefts across the city. We are happy to report that the number of bike thefts reported has drastically reduced in the recent weeks. PC Jeffery has also been involved with the planning of events during the summer, such as the Foodies Festival in July. We look forward to seeing some of you there!

- PCSO Gretton had conducted a Beat Surgery at Barclays Bank to promote ‘TAKE FIVE TO STOP FRAUD’. This was successful with approximately 30 customers having engaged with PCSO Gretton from all walks of life. She is hopeful that as a result of this event, at least one less customer will fall victim to a scam. You can see PCSO Gretton pictured below, along with staff at the bank.

- PC Andrews and PCSO Window attended the Stanmore Community Network meeting at the Carroll Centre. At the meeting, several events for the Stanmore area were arranged which we will be a part of later on in the summer. Stay tuned for these announcements!

- PC Wheeler has been conducting enquiries for a fraud in the Harestock area where an elderly lady had been scammed after work was allegedly done on her roof. We would like to use this opportunity to ask residents in the Harestock area to get in touch via 101 if they have been a victim of a similar scam as these could be linked.

- Our colleagues from the District Policing Team had arrested a male who was outstanding for a racially aggravated public order and a criminal damage. The male has since been handed a 4 month prison sentence.

- PC Baldwin had arrested a male on Friday evening who was wanted on recall to prison.

- As part of Safer Business Action Week, we continued to work alongside our partners from the Winchester Business Improvement District (BID). We work closely with the BID rangers to ensure the city centre remains a pleasant place for business workers and those visiting Winchester. We would also like to highlight the continued good work done by PCSO Parker who has been busy conducting enquires for a number of shopliftings, as well as relentlessly pursuing criminals who are regularly causing issues in the city centre. Pictured below are our city centre officers PC Jeffery, PCSO Parker, and PCSO Gretton, as well as Winchester BID rangers Brett and Joe.

We are all looking forward to the weekend rest days having been out and about all week in this hot weather!
