Hillfields June Monthly Message

Hillfields Community Monthly Police Review – June 2025

Dear residents of Hillfields,

As we step into July, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the work carried out by your local police team throughout June 2025. Sergeant PS Powell and the team have remained committed to ensuring safety and security for everyone in our community.

Our primary policing priority continues to be Vernon Court, where efforts to prevent crime and maintain order remain a top focus. This month, we’ve intensified patrols in the area and worked closely with partner agencies to enhance crime prevention strategies, ensuring that residents feel safer in their homes and surroundings.  In doing so we have issued Community Protection warning to persons involved in the Anti-social behaviour this has been causing.

Additionally, the team has been actively tackling issues related to sex work and kerb crawling in the area. Through increased enforcement, engagement, and disruption tactics, we’ve made significant strides in addressing these concerns and reducing their impact on the community. Collaborative efforts with support services have also been strengthened, ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive the guidance and assistance they need.

Throughout June, the team made Nineteen arrests related to various offences, including Possession with Intent to Supply (PWITS), Rape, Possession of Firearm, Shop theft, Dangerous Drive, Assault and recall to prison. These actions demonstrate our ongoing commitment to removing criminal elements from the community and ensuring Hillfields remains a safe place for all residents.

Additionally, St. Michaels executed Two Misuse of Drugs Warrants at identified addresses within Hillfields, resulting in the arrest of individuals for Possession with Intent to Supply along with the disposal of weapons associated with violence.  This operation underscores our relentless efforts to disrupt drug-related crime in the area.

A recent arrest of an individual for Firearms offences resulted in them being on Police bail with curfew conditions, this disruptive behaviour reinforces our determination to tackle violent crime related offences and ensure those engaging in illegal activities are held accountable.

We also participated in County Lines week where a number of Warrants in partnership with Trading Standards have been executed where illegal tobacco and vapes were seized and a closure order has been placed on this shop.  The team have also participates in Neighbourhood Watch week where we have completed Serious Youth Violence patrols along with, conducting metal sweeps in main parks and engaging with Positive Youth Foundation and raising the awareness around British policing.

Such initiatives continue to raise awareness and strengthen community efforts in partnership working and building trust and confidence with the communities which we serve.

Moreover, the team completed engagement with the Coventry Refugee Migrant Centre, Langar Aid and other agencies at Hillfields Church, Waterloo Street. This was a well-attended event and positive feedback was received around the dedication and support the team have made to all members of the community, fostering inclusivity, and ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals.

As part of our local policing plan, we have increased high-visibility patrols in key areas to provide reassurance and deter criminal activity. Our officers continue to engage with residents, ensuring open lines of communication and swift responses to concerns.

It has come to our attention around illegal parking on Harnall Lane East, Swan Lane near to Burlington Road.  This type of behaviour causes issues to both other road users but also a clear safety matters for members of public crossing the road in those areas. The team will be enforcing the Road Traffic Act legislation to vehicles identified and drivers spoken to around this.

The team though do need the member of public assistance around this parking issue and other driving offences, should you see any vehicles in these areas please report it on the following website:

In July we have our next Police and Communities Together meeting taking place on 7th July 2025 from 1600hrs till 1700hrs at Thomas King House. This is a change of venue from our usual location so looking forward to attending and holding this event. These meetings have been a valuable way to strengthen community ties and gather feedback on policing efforts.

Furthermore, we encourage residents to stay informed about ongoing police activities and discussions. Information on all Police and Communities Together (PACT) meetings for 2025 these can be found on our force website here: West Midlands Police – St Michaels Meetings and Events.
