Local officers investigating motorbike thefts after two arrests made |
||
We’re actively investigating a spate of motorbike thefts in Lichfield. On Friday 20 June, a robbery was reported on Milestone Way in Burntwood. At about 2.05pm, a group of youths took a moped at the back of McDonalds and drove off. On Saturday afternoon (21 June), local officers went to St John Street following a report that a group of youths were trying to take a moped off a delivery driver. The group were curtailed when someone came to the victim’s aid, forcing the suspects to leave empty-handed. The actions of the member of the public prevented the suspects from leaving on their moped, which was later found to be stolen. The same two suspects were found and arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft. We are working with our colleagues from West Midlands Police to tackle cross border criminality and enquires are ongoing. Inspector Melissa Byrne, from the Lichfield local policing team, said: “We’re working hard to protect the hard-earned belongings of our communities and to act against those responsible for thefts, burglary and robbery in Staffordshire. “I’d urge anyone who notices anything suspicious to report to us as soon as possible. We’re patrolling hotspot locations, working with our 24/7 roads policing unit and using specialists across the force to go after those involved.” There are a number of ways you can protect your vehicle from being targeted by thieves: For more ways you can protect your motorbike or moped, visit our website here
