British Empire Medals for two Home from Home carers

Two home from home carers have received their British Empire Medals (BEM).

In December 2024, two Slough Children First Home from Home carers, Kamran and Aisha Abdus-Samad, became recipients of British Empire Medals (BEM) in the 2024 New Year's honour list.

The BEM were classed as the unsung heroes of Berkshire award. They were acknowledged for their hard work with looking after children and young people over the past 10 years and last month, they celebrated receiving them.

A garden party was held for them with afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace on 7 May, and on 27 May,  they were presented with their medals in Sunningdale, by Lord Lieutenant of the King.

Earlier this month, they were invited to speak about this with Rena Annobil on BBC Radio Berkshire.

Kamran and Aisha have both helped young people in Slough as Home from Home carers for Slough Children First’s short breaks home, offering children a chance to get involved in fun activities and experiences.

Home from Home is a part-time fostering scheme that provides respite care, giving parents or carers a break from caring for their child on a full time basis, and is in a family setting. The child will be matched with a family and will stay with the same family each time.

Alternatively, you can call 01753 690960 to speak to a member of the team.
