Local Priorities Vehicle crime – theft from / theft of Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle crime – theft from / theft of, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

We’re currently investigating several reports of thefts from motor vehicles in the Stortford Fields area of #BishopsStortford.

As part of our enquiries, we’re asking people to please review any CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage that they have, so we can identify anyone who may be of interest.

If you have captured anything you think might help, you can share this by uploading it directly to https://upload.5fdams.aetopia.net?ref=NSMDN3

Any other information can be reported online at herts.police.uk/report, via our online web chat at herts.police.uk/contact or by calling the non-emergency number 101.

If you witness any suspicious activity, please call 999 straight away.

In the meantime, we’ve increased patrols and are offering the following advice to residents who may wish to review their vehicle security:

Double check that your vehicle is fully locked and secured when leaving it unattended. Offenders will try several car door handles to find one that is unlocked.
Ensure that all valuable items are removed from display, including coats, loose change and sunglasses – these can be enough to entice an opportunist thief to break in and look for other items which may be hidden away. Ideally, all valuables should be removed completely.
If you have a keyless vehicle, place the fob inside a signal blocking pouch and store it as far away from the vehicle as possible.
We know it can be difficult, but we’d advise removing all tools from vans overnight. If it’s not possible, fit a good quality tool safe to keep them more secure.

If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.herts.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
