Crime Prevention - Burglary

The warm weather has seen an increase in the opportunity for burglary offenders and offences. Often properties are at their most insecure during this time with windows and doors left insecure.  Offenders, often using the cover of darkness or where there is reduced or poor lighting or where the property is not overlooked, take advantage of these situations.

On the 15th June at Old Lane Birkenshaw the suspect(s) entered through an insecure conservatory window and stolen were three sets of keys, the offender(s) making off in the complainant’s vehicle.

On the 16th June suspect(s) have entered through a ground floor open window at Ghyllroyd Avenue, Birkenshaw, opening the blinds to gain entry but were then disturbed by the occupants dog.

On the 16th June at St Pauls Road Birkenshaw offenders have snapped the lock on the rear door gaining entry, stolen vehicle keys and taken two vehicles from the driveway.

On the same date offenders were seen to try the front and rear door handles of a property at Southcroft Avenue, Birkenshaw and were disturbed when a security light had been activated and the would be offenders have then made off.

On the 17th June offenders have approached two properties and gained entry through insecure doors, located the car keys and then made off in the complainants vehicle at one address on Howard Park, Cleckheaton but were unsuccessful in stealing another.

Again, offenders have entered an insecure kitchen window gaining entry and stealing vehicle keys and subsequently the vehicles at Buttercup Drive, Cleckheaton.

Have a plan around security, who will be responsible for securing your property tonight?

Make sure that all ground floor windows and doors are locked.  Do not leave valuables on view, particularly vehicle keys.

Consider dusk until dawn lighting, remember offenders do not want to be seen.

At Brook Street at Cleckheaton an offender has stopped in their tracks when noticing that the complainant has a video doorbell.
