Arrest update

Dear Resident

Three people were arrested and several suspected stolen bicycles were recovered thanks to the quick actions of an officer out on patrol in #HemelHempstead town centre.

PC Beresford was conducting Op Hotspot* patrols in Marlowes when he was made aware that attempts had allegedly been made to steal a pedal cycle. He quickly detained and arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted theft and going equipped.

Following further enquiries, searches were conducted at an address, where eight bicycles were recovered.

Two males, aged 16 and 17, were found inside the address and arrested on suspicion of theft of pedal cycle.

Enquiries are continuing.

* Operation Hotspot was launched in May 2024, after Government funding was secured by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office. The funding is providing extra foot patrols and increased visibility, on top of normal daily business, targeting specific areas which have been identified as crime and anti-social behaviour hotspots through an analysis of police data.

In its first year across Hertfordshire:

• 26,108 hours of additional patrols were carried out.

• 333 arrests were made.

• 680 stop searches were carried out.

• 52 weapons were seized.
