Motorcyclists from our Roads Policing Unit are attending national Bike Safe scheme events over the coming weeks to talk to riders about bike safety.
You will be able to find the team at the annual Prescott Bike Festival in Gotherington on Sunday 22 June and the Ride to Raise Blood Donor Rally in Tetbury on Saturday 28 June.
Both events are dedicated for people on two wheels and set up and supported by local charities and enthusiasts.
This is part of our activity for the recent National Police Chiefs’ Council’s 2Wheel campaign which aims to reduce collisions involving some of our most vulnerable road users.
In Gloucestershire there were 774 road traffic collisions involving motorcyclists between April 2024 and April 2025 with 45 being serious injury collision and six resulting in fatalities.
PC Jon Antill, who takes part in the national Bike Safe scheme, said: “As a biker both at and outside of work, I see on a daily basis the risks on public roads.
“As expected when the warmer weather presents itself, there is a massive increase in the number of bikers on our roads.
“As part of my role, I attend collisions where bikers are involved and while the severity of the collision can vary, most see bikers sustain serious injuries.
“Our aim is to speak with everyone who uses our road, to increase safety and help make them more aware of the risks and hazards which can be present.
“By being at these events, we can educate and discuss things which will hopefully help riders to be safer and reduce the risk to themselves and other road users whilst enjoying being on two wheels.”
