Criminals are getting bolder, targeting homes and vehicles during daylight hours—often while homeowners are at work, running errands or even just sat in their back gardens enjoying the weather. Daytime Burglaries – What’s Happening? Most occur between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.Thieves often knock first to see if anyone is home.They’re in and out in under 10 minutes.Entry is usually made through unlocked doors, open windows, or by forcing a rear or side door.Vehicle-Related Burglaries – Be Aware: Vehicles parked on the street or in driveways are easy targets.Thieves are looking for unattended valuables, open garages, and unlocked vehicles.Smash-and-grab tactics are common, especially if something visible catches their eye. How You Can Protect Yourself At Home: Lock all doors and windows, even when you’re in your home.Install security cameras, motion-activated lights, and an alarm system.Don’t post your schedule or vacation plans online.Use timers for lights and electronics to create the appearance of someone being home.If someone knocks or rings the doorbell and you’re not expecting anyone, respond through a camera or intercom.Get to know your neighbours and consider joining or starting a Neighbourhood Watch.With Your Vehicle: Always lock your doors, even in your own driveway.Remove all valuables: bags, electronics, loose change, sunglasses.Don’t leave Keys, garage remotes or tools in your vehicle. They can give thieves easy access to your home.Park in well-lit, visible areas when away from home.Consider an aftermarket car alarm, immobiliser, tracker or steering wheel lock as added deterrents. Stay Alert — Report Suspicious Activity If you notice: Someone walking around the neighbourhood peering into cars or windowsA vehicle slowly cruising the area multiple times.Strangers going door-to-door claiming to be service providers.Don’t ignore it. Call 101 to report these suspicious activities or 999 in an emergency. Trust your instincts. Don’t Be an Easy Target. Daylight is no deterrent to determined criminals, but your vigilance is.
