Wakefield Central NPT East receive award for contribution to Neighbourhood Policing

Dear Resident,

Wakefield Central NPT East won the Colin Cramphorn trophy for Contribution to Neighbourhood Policing at the West Yorkshire Police Awards on Friday 13th June 2025.

The team has delivered some exceptional results through an approach built on genuine community engagement, partnership problem-solving and innovation.

On receiving the award, Inspector Paul Fraser said “This award is in recognition of the outstanding commitment and dedication displayed by the team over the last 12 months.

Each officer has demonstrated an unwavering drive to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and make the communities of the Wakefield East Ward safer. Inspirationally led by PS Hardwick and NSO Wheater, Constables Pickering, Gleeson, Smith, & Denton alongside PCSOs Duke, Wood, Hopson, Fletcher, & Wilcock have all played their part using visibility and engagement as key tools to drive record levels of confidence and satisfaction.

Record levels of local and transient offenders have been arrested and brought to justice. This includes community-based recidivist activity, County Lines offending and mapped individuals from Organised Crime Groups. With the arrests have come huge workloads but this in turn has been expertly managed with in-depth and complex investigations delivering crime detection rates approaching 45%, as opposed to the national average of 7%.

Neighbourhood Policing has never been as important, and I am beyond proud of what these colleagues have delivered. Our commitment remains steadfast, and we will continue to bring our very best to work each and every day.”
