Local Priorities Nuisance Motorbikes / E-Bikes / E-Scooters Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Nuisance Motorbikes / E-Bikes / E-Scooters, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

Hello!

It's been brought to our attention that information has been circulating on Facebook relating to e-bikes on Heckenhurst and Worsthorne, pulling dangerous stunts and causing distress to members of the public.

We are aware of how much of a nuisance these bikes and scooters cause and we want to reassure you that we have been undertaking several county wide operations to try and tackle the issues they cause, which have seen some really positive outcomes.

On the back of this, I would like to draw your attention to two things,

1- I urge residents to use reporting channels to let us know about any instances of dangerous, antisocial or illegal driving. If this causes a threat to life, this is always an emergency, and you should call 999. If there is no threat to life or the offenders are no longer around, this must be reported through 101. Without these reports, we as a team cannot undertake operations in the area as we need official reports, logs and reported crimes to be able to evidence the need for local operations and tasking. We will always take these reports seriously.

2- Electrical pedal cycles are legal, as long as they have pedals, have an output of no more than 250 watts and do not have the capacity to go above 15.5mph powered by the motor. Dirt bikes, Surrons or electric bikes that do not have pedals, have an output of more than 250 watts and go above 15.5mph powered by the motor are NOT considered an electric pedal cycle and MUST be registered, taxed and driven by a rider with a valid licence.

More information on the legislation can be found here - https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules

I urge all residents to report these instances to us as and when they see them. Social media is a brilliant tool but not an official reporting mechanism to the Police, and without your reports, we cannot offer you the support.

Op. Centurion is Lancashire Constabulary’s county-wide response to anti-social behaviour, supported by Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw. As part of this targeted operation, each district of Lancashire is currently benefitting from additional foot patrols to target areas identified as ASB hotspots.

If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.lancashire.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online webpage Home - Lancashire Constabulary - Report Online or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
