Latest Scam Alert

Dear Resident,

Fake Disney+ Email

A dodgy email claiming to be from streaming platform Disney+ tells you that 'your subscription renewal payment has declined' and encourages you to follow a link to update your payment details.

This link will lead to a malicious website that will gather your personal and financial information.

Suspicious emails can be reported by forwarding them to report@phishing.gov.uk.

Dodgy websites can be reported to the National Cyber Security Centre.

DWP ‘energy allowance’ scam

A scam text which claims to be from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says that you're eligible for an 'energy allowance' of up to £300.

It includes a link and deadline to 'complete the submission process.' This will lead to a malicious website which will try to get you to part with your personal and financial data.

There's no such thing as an energy allowance.

If you’re on benefits or have a low income, you may be eligible for help with your energy bills under the Warm Home Discount Scheme, energy-saving improvement schemes or home energy support payments. You can find out more about these on the government website.

Scam texts can be reported by forwarding them to 7726.

If you have been a victim of a scam, then report it to Action Fraud or by calling 03001232040, alternatively you can call Humberside Police on 101.

Regards,

Brigg NPT
