This weekends operation to Police the Night-time economy in the City Centre has now come to an end. Saturday was a busier night in the City with many more visitors enjoying the ample provisions our City has to offer. Although busier with footfall, there was no significant increase in crime and disorder. Your Neighbourhood team, supported by Specialist Operations made 6 arrests overnight. Of note was one incident where some boisterous 18 year old chap and his friends thought it fun to drive up Peter Street squirting revellers (and Police officers) with liquid from a car with a large water gun. Having got stuck in the obligatory bumper to bumper traffic our officers on foot patrol caught up with him easily. Oopsies - the young driver seems to have “forgot” to tell his insurance company about the 8 points he was carrying on his driving licence. Result.. car seized to be crushed and another minimum 6 points, large fine and driving ban pending for this cunning prankster. His passenger was dealt with via a diversionary scheme for assault in relation to the water gun. We will not tolerate behaviours in the City that seek to alarm or distress people. We will use any tool necessary to ensure the offenders are dealt with robustly. Next weekend will see an increased Police presence in the City due to the Parklife event in Heaton Park. This is something we have been planning for many months and will strive to ensure the event has minimal impact on the communities within the City. Help to improve your community by reporting ASB. By doing so, you are helping to make your community a safer & more enjoyable place. To make a report to Greater Manchester Police, you can use LiveChat or online reporting at gmp.police.uk. You can also call 101. Always dial 999 in an emergency.
