Welcome to May’s edition of Sussex Alerts. May has seen a slight increase in reports but it has again remained fairly level with previous months. A group of children were congregating on the pebbled area of Saltdean beach. A lone officer was deployed, and the group dispersed after they saw the Police vehicle.

I have been advised of two separate incidents occurring near/within the Tennis court area in Saltdean. I must reiterate that the CCTV that has been installed is NOT a Police camera. The Police do not have instant access to this, and it must be obtained from the council. If CCTV is to be reviewed a definitive time frame must be supplied. If the incident is solely ASB related, a 10hour CCTV trawl is not proportionate. It is recommended that members of the public, where safe to do so, record any incidents on their personal phones as this will back up any possible footage. All reports will be risk assed by the threat harm and the risk to the wider public.

As stated above, I have many meetings booked in, feel free to pop by and say hello as I am eager to meet members of the community.

I have continued to engage with the local neighbourhood watch and those at the Saltdean Lido. It is paramount to maintain good working relationships with members of the community and local community groups.

Crime Prevention:

Target Hardening:

It is important to permanently or temporarily remove any possible target for potential criminal behaviour. Below are a few tips that may help.

  • Placing a vehicle in a garage or underneath streetlights
  • Removing property from within a car
  • Demolish derelict where possible
  • Removing jewellery from shop windows/home windows
  •
