Hi All,
There has been some excellent proactive work across the BCU this week. This is great to see, as this is contributing to our significant reduction in knife crime – thank you all.
Our MSC colleagues continue to deliver excellent results and their commitment to policing our BCU is outstanding – thank you!
Thank you to PC Vicky Boswell and the officers who have assisted with providing the Police Protection supplies for our most vulnerable children – this is a lovely idea.
This week I have spoken to members of our communities, who have told me that they are pleased to be seeing extra police out and patrol and they have especially liked their engagement and friendly approach. Thank you – this is exactly the feedback that we want to hear.
I have received high praise this week for the officers who have been supporting with the Aylesbury Estate issue, alongside our partners in Southwark Local Authority. It was lovely to hear how well you collaborated with our partners and even more so, that residents clapped and provided cups of tea! – Thank you to all involved!
It was also so lovely to hear that Brixton M&S store donated 150 chickens to a local food kitchen, when their fridge broke down. Thank you to Pastor Lorraine MBE & team for distributing and cooking them in a local food kitchen, to help our most vulnerable communities – this was heartwarming to hear.
I hope that you are all getting some time off to enjoy the good weather.
Thank you & take care.

Fantastic job by ERT D East
D team were made aware of a paedophile hunter case overnight. PC Hopson and PC Hollobone worked together to compile a large amount of damning evidence and ensure it was properly documented and exhibited.
PC’s Jayaraju, Chana, Raymond, Santangelo, Sam Edwards and Porter conducted an arrest enquiry for the suspect, having established that he lives with children who were at risk. They managed the incident with the utmost professionalism – locating multiple phones that the suspect attempted to discard, managing a difficult scene with multiple family members present and ensuring a comprehensive handover for LI. Their actions have resulted in a box tight case against a child sexual predator and they have ensured that other children are not at risk from his actions, well done!!
Op. Nightingale with MSC, Waterloo and SouthBank NPT
The weekend of action between the MSC, Waterloo and Southbank NPT resulted in some excellent work returns.
On Friday during an 8 hours shift, 3 arrests were made 1 for Immigration and HSG; another for Indecent Exposure and one for theft. Plus Reporting a vehicle for not having a front number plate; 4 Stop and Searches with a positive result for possession of Cannabis and Nitrous Oxide; two vehicle stops.
On Saturday the hard continued with 6 more arrests; 3 under the Gambling Act, 1 for Theft and Possession of an offensive weapon, 1 for Breach of CPN and finally PWITS with a positive Section 18 search. On top of that they dealt with Possession of Nitrous Oxide; a shoplifting report; 2 Stop and Search and assisted with in area search for a lost child.
On Sunday; 5 more arrests were made for Theft, PWITS, FTA and Drink Drive. Plus another Section 18 search, Missing Person inquiry and an Immigration Check.
But the top it all was the PWITS arrest on Saturday; towards the tail end of the shift SPS Tris Phillips, SC Nick Mouat and SC Roberto Lagando were called and flagged down to 28 Leake Street (a nightclub) regarding a male in possession of Class A; following an investigation this male was arrested for PWITS.
A Section 18 was authorised, which was conducted by SC Gabe Moscato, SC Kris Lloyd, SC Jay Brewster and SC Yunus Khan where a GIGANTIC haul of cannabis was found/seized.
This is a cracking result which was handed over to CID, who undertook an investigation and Charged and Remanded the Detained Person
A MASSIVE thank you to Gabe, Kris, Yunus and Jay for conducting and carrying out a very professional Section 18 at the Home Address in Barnet, NW9; also for SPS Phillips, Nick and Sam for the detailed Connect files and associated paperwork; This is the biggest seizure for AS MSC for quite some time. This was a very gruelling and demanding 20+ hour shift for all those involved!
GREAT Work Team 😊
Police Protection supplies AS BCU
PC Vicky Boswell has updated the supplies at Peckham and Brixton, and they are accessible 24/7, so that any officer who has a child in police protection can make the experience less traumatic.
Peckham has a cupboard in the writing room, and Brixton has some boxes and drawers in the canteen by the TV.
There are toys, books, board games, colouring books, Lego, puzzles, soft toys, clean clothing, activities, arts and crafts, make believe play and so on. Also there are a big selection of sensory and fidget toys. Someone donated a play station and lots of games which was incredible. Anything that was brand new in box has been given to local charity shops and food bank. These are all donated from the local community.
The idea behind this is that a child in police protection is already going through a scary and frightening time. They are with the police, possibly as a victim of neglect, or a missing person, lost child or many other scenarios. They do not know what is going to happen and many children are taught from a young age that the police will take you away if you are naughty. This is absolutely not the message we need to send out. This set up allows officers to bond with a child, reassure the child and deflect from what situation has brought them into our care. It is hard to entertain young children for any lengthy periods. Social services are very impressed with our provision and call it outstanding. It is positive to see teenagers enjoying competing at connect 4 with police officers, and nice for younger children too.
Two children taken into our care recently, said “Wow this is like toy heaven” and the other “ I will never forget this”.
The only request is that you put the toys back when you are finished with them and try and keep it tidy. It is primarily going to be used by ERPT officers and must not be removed.
ST Giles SNT recovered a stolen Moped while on patrol. the rightful owner has been contacted.
ST Giles NPT found a moped whilst on patrol. They have contacted the rightful owner. Excellent local Policing.
Great Proactive Work
Great proactivity from PC Kieran Mullin-Smith (Faraday SNT) who researched, obtained and led the successful execution of his first search warrant. Nine large packets of drugs had been intercepted en route to this address and Kieran had observed suspicious activity nearby. Officers found a large quantity of Class B drugs, weighing scales + drugs paraphernalia as well as a prohibited knuckle duster. Two arrests were made for drug supply offences and assault of two police officers. The briefing that Kieran prepared and delivered was extremely comprehensive and praised by ‘guest’ officers who were involved.
Excellent Local Policing
Relentless work and impressive local knowledge by PCs Megan Cochrane & PC Luke Holder (Camberwell Green SNT) tackling retail theft on their ward. They viewed CCTV showing the same person stealing brazenly and blatantly from a local co-op branch on 7 occasions and recognised the suspect. The total value of items stolen was in excess of £600. The officers made it their mission to locate him, spotted him on Camberwell Green while they were on patrol and arrested him. He was charged with 7 offences and remanded. The officers are preparing a Criminal Behaviour Order to deter future offending after he is sentenced.
Stop and Search Skills
Good stop and arrest by PC Tanveer Kalsi & PC Kieran Mullin-Smith (Faraday SNT) and Sgt Billy Crutchlow (Newington SNT) patrolling a ward hotspot. They noticed a suspicious man using a phone while riding a moped. The officers stopped him, recognised him and a search yielded £80 cash and 6 concealed snap bags of cannabis. His phone also showed incriminating messages related to drug dealing.
