Bablake Weekly Update

Here is your quick round up from the team as to what’s been happening this past week in Bablake:

Vehicle Crime

On SADLER ROAD the owner of a Peugeot 208 noticed that one of the doors was slightly ajar, it was discovered that several items had been stolen from within including a mobile phone and clothing. A white Ford transit van has also been stolen from the car park of the ROYAL COURT HOTEL. Officers are carrying out investigations in relation to these offences. Please be assured that vehicle crime is one of our priorities

We are always on the lookout for "stolens", it is a nice feeling telling the owner that their vehicle has been found.

This set, we discovered a vehicle on false plates. After carrying out enquiries, it had been stolen from over 40 miles away from Burton upon Trent.

A few days later, a vehicle failed to stop when signalled (which is an offence). The driver decided to make a leg for it down the canal. After a scenic foot chase the driver was arrested. It soon became clear why the driver wasn't feeling so chatty. He was found to be disqualified from driving and the vehicle had no insurance, no tax and SORN. We took great delight in seizing this vehicle. As for the driver, after his run he got to have a rest in our cells!

Carrying on the water theme two suspects have been arrested for theft of a motorbike. One suspect made a futile attempt to escape and jumped into the River Sherbourne. He also got to stay in the cells and dry out.

Operation Regroup

Our last WM Message, we mentioned Operation Regroup which your neighbourhood team was a part of. To provide an update, on the ALVIS RETAIL PARK, more than 35 vehicles were stopped. 25 offences were recorded which ranged from illegal tints on vehicle windows to dangerous tyre defects. Several drivers have been reported to the DVSA.  Three people were arrested for driving whilst disqualified or driving while under the influence of drugs. All suspects were taken into custody .

Operation Sceptre

This week we have been focusing on reducing knife crime, serious youth violence and anti-social behaviour as a part of Operation Sceptre.  Weapons sweeps have been carried out in parks and open spaces across the wards. I am pleased to say no weapons were found.  We were also invited to give a talk at Westfield House Platoon Army Cadets where we discussed various subjects including knife crime and gang culture.   Alongside this, a number of businesses were visited to check that they are responsible retailers and not selling illegal or harmful products.
