Message from Neighbourhood Watch Network Neighbourhood Watch is celebrating its 40th Neighbourhood Watch Week on 1 June. Yes it really is that long since the first “Home Watch week” began in sunny Bedford. It is a real honour for us to talk with Colleen, Bedford lead, about why it started and how its changed over the years. Neighbourhood Watch Network have the following planned for Neighbourhood Watch Week: Sunday 1st June – we take you back to the summer of 1985, the year where Live Aid was the event to be at and leg warmers were the height of fashion, along with shoulder pads and very large stereos! We talk with Colleen from Bedford about how and why Neighbourhood Watch Week started and the changing faces of Neighbourhood Watch over the last 40 years.Monday 2nd June – As it is also Volunteers week, we are so happy to celebrate our wonderful, dedicated volunteers, with the launch of the Volunteer Recognition Awards for 2025. The categories are; crime prevention, innovation and reach, community health and wellbeing, young volunteer, and special recognition award. Last year we had over 395 nominations and we loved reading every one of them! So if you know a Neighbourhood Watch volunteer that you would like to nominate, please visit our award pages on our website to see the criteria and fill in the form to nominate.Thursday 5th June – We present you our new fresh look of our Community Safety Charter training modulesSaturday 7th June – Today is a celebration day for our communities and you are encouraged to consider holding a Big Lunch, where you can celebrate with your neighbours, families and friends.
