Operation Emu has been running in the Rusholme and Longsight Area for a few weeks now, this is a mix of proactive overt and covert policing with officers in uniform and plain clothes, tackling serious violent crime, and drug dealing in the local area. Since its inception in February 2025 there have been a number of successful arrests and convictions made with offenders being brought to justice.

City of Manchester Central Neighbourhood Team, which incorporates officers from Longsight Police Station and Greenheyes Police Station have been conducting stop searches in areas known as “ Hot Spots” for drug dealing, drug use, and serious acquisitive crime, a total of over 100 positive stop searches, taking drugs and weapons off the streets have been conducted, with offenders receiving a mix of community resolutions, and charges for these specific offences. One incident of note was a male who was detained by officers and found in possession of over 30 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine, this male is now currently on remand waiting for his sentencing date. Another incident of note from the Longsight Area, was an area identified for drug dealing, whereby the offenders are using vehicles to drug deal, on three occasions officers have pursued the vehicles and seized the vehicles being used in the facilitation of the crime, with enquiries ongoing to identify the offenders for this.
