The below crime is not normally reported to Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators, but is still a good reminder of distraction robbery which can take place at any time in any public area.

Bedford Road (near the Odeon)

The victim was sitting on a park bench making a phone call on his mobile during which time a 60 year old male also joined him on the bench. At the first opportunity the second older male then struck up a conversation with the younger male, which ended in a hand shake and then his prompt departure.  Soon after, the victim realised the second male had taken his wallet with credit & debit cards plus his mobile phone. The male was described as Eastern European, about 60 years old, with stubble, with a bag and wearing a hat.

A kitchen window was smashed, access was then gained and a messy search followed which included the loft. Jewellery and watches were found and stolen.

A rear registration plate has been stolen from a car, parked outside the victim’s house.

Church Hill
The resident returned home to find their front door was damaged with the glass panels smashed and chips of paint on the door step. At the rear of the property the glass in a window, next to the back door was smashed. For all this, entry was thought not to have been obtained.

A property was broken into via the conservatory. Once internal access had been gained the property was ‘ransacked’ however, no valuables or cash were there to be found.

Lower Eashing

A piece of concrete was used to smash the glass in the rear door of a property. Once inside, a search of the property commenced. It is thought by the victim, that all that was found and taken was a red box containing medals including an OBE.
