Burbage Police Update. Quad Bikes, Electric Bikes And Road Safety.

Hello Resident,

We hope you are well, here is a quick update for Burbage where we are appealing for a few bits of information relating to some recent vehicle related anti-social behaviour.

Reported Crime and Appeals

Several reports of 2 quad bikes and a mini moto bike racing around local parks between 19:00-19:30 on Wednesday 21st May. Locations include Brookside Park and Tilton Road Park. Other parks such as Hinckley Road Park may also have been affected. If you live by a park and/or have any CCTV of these vehicles/riders, please email with footage if it is of evidential use. Due to the manner of riding and dangers it has caused, we are working to deal with these bikes and those choosing to behave like this. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

We have also received reports of concerns relating to the manner of riding involving electric bicycles. We have spoken to local businesses and completed targeted patrols to challenge those who feel it acceptable to ride an electric bike at speed on a footpath causing near misses involving children, elderly and local residents. Riding an electric bike: the rules - GOV.UK

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

We visited Sketchley Primary School to take part in their walk to school event. We completed two assemblies where we spoke about a range of road safety issues including parent parking, encouraging walking to school, bicycle safety and not staring at your mobile phone when crossing the road.

Myself, Keith and Mr Cader at Sketchley Primary School delivering key messages to children which will hopefully be passed on to parents.

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

We are actively working with residents to address concerns around drug dealing, this includes patrols and targeted work around those involved. As always, please feel free to pass on any information you may have as this really helps us address this type of behaviour.

Please continue to be mindful around home security and vehicle security. Whilst reports of this type of crime in Burbage have been minimal over recent weeks (and we hope to keep it that way), it is important not to give opportunistic criminals opportunities. Keep sentimental and high value property locked and secure, and report incidents of suspected crime in progress immediately to 999 emergency or 101 non emergency.

Thank you and take care.
