Child Car Seat Safety!

Good Morning,

In the UK, child car seat regulations are designed to ensure the safety of young passengers. Here are the key rules:

  • Age and Height Requirements – Children must use a car seat until they are 12 years old or 135 cm tall, whichever comes first. After this, they must wear a seat belt.
  • Rear-Facing Seats – Babies must be in a rear-facing seat until they are at least 15 months old. After this, they can use a forward-facing seat.
  • Seat Types – Car seats are categorized based on height (i-Size seats) or weight (ECE R44 seats). Only EU-approved seats are legal in the UK, identified by an ‘E’ mark.
  • Installation Rules – Seats must be fitted using ISOFIX anchor points or a diagonal seat belt strap. Rear-facing seats must not be placed in a front seat with an active airbag.
  • Booster Seats – Since March 2017, backless booster seats are only approved for children weighing over 22 kg or taller than 125 cm.
  • Penalties – Using an unsuitable or incorrectly fitted car seat can result in a £500 fine
