What 3 Words - Mapping Technology

Good afternoon Resident,

Please can I daw your attention to the website https://what3words.com/

Alternatively, there is an app available for Android and Apple phones - https://what3words.com/products/what3words-app

The basic premise of the website is that it uses mapping technology to divide the entire world map into 3 by 3 metre squares. Each square is given 3 words that can identify it.

For example - the three words - challenge.zips.riverside - show on a map the entrance to Minster Abbey.

The emergency services and various government agencies are now using this technology to help identify exactly where incidents are taking place.

As a real world example of how this technology can help, Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS)have had several reports of fires being started around Thistle Hill estate and the community woodland at the end of April / early May. When KFRS have tried to locate the small fires they have had to search around the woodland to find this, but if the members of the public had used What 3 Words then it would allow the KFRS to find the fire that bit quicker.

As you can imagine there are numerous ways that this mapping technology can enhance everyday tasks. Please keep this in mind if you need to contact the emergency services and consider adding the app to your phone in case of an emergency.

Kind regards,

PC 15100 Saddington,
