ASB deterrent patrols- Littleover

Over the last few weeks, potentially due to the surprisingly reliable hot weather we have had, we have seen an increase in reports of various anti social behaviour across Littleover and Mickleover parks and green spaces. This occurs in patterns every year, resurging once again in the summer and autumn months typically.

Safer Neighbourhood Team officers covering both areas have been conducting foot and bicycle patrols in areas that are reported as being affected with a view to deter any anti-social behaviour (ASB), identify offenders and allow the local community to speak with us.

 The three most often reported incidents currently are:

* Deliberate fires set in woodland

* Construction of large dens in woodland

* Nuisance motorbikes

In a bid to reduce the above issues we have implemented more patrols on local parks. We are also working with partner agencies such as Derby City Council and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, as well as organisations such as Friends of Littleover Park on joint patrols and how we can work together to solve some of the issues. Today, we have patrolled on foot:

King Georges Playing Field

Clemsons Park

Millenium Woods

Griffe Field Park

Mickleover Meadows

We are also looking at how we can jointly, and independently, deliver some educational inputs in local schools and groups around the above issues in the coming weeks.

We do want to be clear however, that given we have had such a wonderfully warm spring; everyone should be able to enjoy their time outside. Kids should still be able to be kids. However there is a clear distinction between making a den in the woods with fallen branches, to taking power tools and other items to fell a large number of living trees to construct bigger dens ( such as the one in the photo above). Similarly with motorbikes; driving them on footpaths and parks, anywhere other than a road, is illegal and causes undue distress to those who are also enjoying the parks.

Many thanks,

Sam 12829
