New resource to support victims and witnesses through the Criminal Justice Process

Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw has unveiled a new resource aimed at supporting victims and witnesses of crime through the different steps of the Criminal Justice System.

The online resource, developed with support from Lancashire's Criminal Justice Board, features a series of videos that explain each step of the criminal justice process—from reporting a crime to attending court and understanding what happens afterwards.

Hosted on the Victim Care Lancashire website, these videos explain what happens at each step of the process, making it easier to understand what to expect once a crime has been reported.

Commissioner Grunshaw stated: "A key part of my role is to commission support for anyone affected by crime in Lancashire. As part of this, it's really important we share open and honest information about the various steps in the Criminal Justice System.

"From speaking to victims, witnesses, and local support providers, I understand that the process can often feel overwhelming, confusing, frightening, and sometimes frustrating.

"This is why, together with partners from the Lancashire Criminal Justice Board, we have created this resource to take people through the different aspects step by step.

"We have produced videos covering crime reporting, the investigation process, support for victims and witnesses, court proceedings, and what happens afterwards. This ensures that anyone affected by crime knows what to expect and can access support whenever needed."

Assistant Chief Constable Gareth Lee said: "Supporting victims and witnesses is at the heart of what we do.

"It is crucial that Lancashire residents have access to information and support should they ever need to report, witness, or be the victim of a crime. We will be encouraging our officers and staff to share this video resource with the communities we serve."

Lesley Miller, Head of Criminal Justice at Lancashire Constabulary added: "We are really pleased to be able to share this new resource to help people in Lancashire through the Criminal Justice Process.

"It can be really daunting to report crime or to attend court as a victim or witness. Helping victims and witnesses to better understand what to expect at the different stages of the process is really important and the videos created will do just that."

The new video resource is available online at victimcarelancashire.org/report-to-court. The website also holds information about help and support available for anyone affected by crime in Lancashire.
