Longford Updates

Dear Residents and Local Businesses,

Here is your weekly update from your local neighbourhood Policing Team, to let you know some of what we've been busy dealing with:

PATROLS

Officers have been carrying out patrols of the Longford areas on foot and in vehicles. We have been paying particular attention to locations that have recently experienced an increase in crime and anti-social behaviour.

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

We are receiving several reports of anti-social behaviour in and around Riley Square, Longford Road and Dovedale Road. We have identified some of the people involved in partnership with our Schools Officers and are taking positive action against them. We are conducting regular patrols of these areas also.

NUISANCE MOTORBIKES
The use of Off Road bikes is illegal and that we will work with partners to address those that are persistently using these bikes in an antisocial manner. This could result in action against people’s tenancies for their homes, alongside any criminal enforcement that is taken by Police. There is also a City Wide Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which will result in a fine when riders are identified.

West Midlands Police have introduced a dedicated Off Road Bike Team, which we will look to use in Coventry. This will support our existing tactic of DNA Tagging Spray, which since being introduced has resulted in a number of bike seizures across Longford area. Since the introduction of the DNA Tagging Spray, we have seized a number of bikes where we have identified the spray and ensured these bikes have been crushed.

We ask that you remain vigilant and where safe to do so, take as much detail about the rider or the bikes, including distinguishing colours of clothing, bikes or any key locations where these bikes start and report this to Police so we can continue to build on the wealth of information that people are providing in relation to this issue. Under Operation Prosperity, we now have a QR code system where the public can upload footage anonymously, all information can be found here: Operation Prosperity - Send us your footage of antisocial use of off-road bikes, and we'll do the rest | West Midlands Police

The team are actively putting intelligence together around illegal bikes, the people using them and where they are being kept. We also have a number of operations planned throughout the summer alongside our Traffic Team.

THEFT OF VEHICLE

We have had one theft of motor vehicle on Wilsons Lane between the hours of 18:00 and 22:45 on the 09/05/2025 where a vehicle has been broken into and stolen from Novotel. If you have heard or seen anything, please contact us on Live Chat or 101 quoting reference 20/235874/25.

You can find out more about vehicle crime prevention here: Theft of motor vehicle | Your Options | West Midlands Police (west-midlands.police.uk) and here: Theft from motor vehicle | Your Options | West Midlands Police (west-midlands.police.uk)

We are looking for volunteers to get involved in a local Streetwatch group within the Longford and Bell Green areas - if you would like more information or if you're interested in joining, please contact Streetwatch@westmidlands.police.uk with your name, telephone number and postcode.
