Dear Resident, Hertford Neighbourhood Policing Team will be holding an Engagement relating to Op Sceptre as detailed below.
On Wednesday 21st May between 15:00 – 18:00 Hours Police, PCSO, Herts Connected and Children and Young people team will be at Hartham Common, we will be demonstrating our Body Metal detectors, Open discussions and Questions about knife crime and to educate Parents and Children about knife crime including the legislation on carrying a knife and what will happen if you are caught. Operation Sceptre is a national police initiative in the United Kingdom aimed at tackling knife crime. It typically involves a week of intensified action, bringing together police forces across England and Wales to coordinate activities that address knife crime from various angles. Operation Sceptre generally entails: * Enforcement: This includes targeted operations to seize knives and arrest individuals carrying them illegally. Police may conduct weapon sweeps in public areas, deploy knife arches, and execute warrants. They also work to disrupt the supply of knives. * Education and Engagement: A significant part of the operation involves raising awareness about the dangers of carrying knives. Police officers and partner agencies engage with schools, colleges, youth groups, and communities to educate young people about the risks and consequences of knife crime. They also engage with retailers to ensure responsible knife sales. * Prevention: Operation Sceptre aims to prevent young people from getting involved in knife crime by offering support and highlighting positive alternatives. * Some stations have Knife Surrender Bins: These are often made available during Operation Sceptre, providing a safe and anonymous way for people to dispose of unwanted knives. I have attached a QR code for a survey for Op Sceptre.
