New local policing priorities in Welwyn Hatfield (South)

The Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have set new policing priorities for the local area, following feedback from the public.

NPTs work alongside partners to focus on solving long and short-term neighbourhood issues, such as anti-social behaviour, theft, speeding and drug-related crime.

Using an analysis of data, they set local policing priorities every four months, to provide a specific focus on the issues which are currently causing the most concern to residents locally. Feedback from members of the public also plays a vital part.

Residents will see their dedicated team of PCs and PCSOs working alongside partners to address the agreed priorities below, through an increased police presence, engagement events and targeted enforcement.

Welwyn Hatfield South (Hollybush, Cuffley, Howlands, Northaw, Hatfield East, Hatfield South)

  • Speeding on Station Road, Cuffley (Between Plough Hill and Cuffley Hill).
  • Tackling acquisitive crime on Pine Grove, Brookmans Park.
  • While there will be a focus on the local priorities, officers will continue to respond to daily business as usual, as well as forcewide priorities and any emerging issues which require more immediate action.

The area is also policed by Intervention officers who respond to emergency calls and the Local Crime Unit which investigates the more serious crimes such as burglary, robbery and assault. In addition, they can utilise officers from central teams which work countywide.

Previously, members of the public had asked us to focus on the following priorities:

South - Speeding in Essendon, Welham Green, Cuffley, Brookmans Park, Little Heath and Newgate Street

  • Several speed checks were conducted by the Neighbourhood Policing Team as well as colleagues in our Intervention and Road Policing Teams. Words of advice were given and tickets issued to motorists. We also provided reassurance to residents.
  • We are also launching a competition with local schoolchildren to make speed awareness signs. The winners will be made into posters.
  • South - Anti-social behaviour in Dellsome Lane, Welham Green

  • Regular high visibility and covert patrols were conducted by the shops and the alley ways, resulting in words of advice being given to those on mopeds and others potentially committing anti-social behaviour.
  • Patrols will continue.
  • The policing priority surveys are currently closed until the next set, but generic feedback can still be given at any time via the following link – bit.ly/police-general
