Good morning Resident,
If you saw my last e-mail you would be aware of a theft incident on Saturday whereby a staff members purse was taken from the staff room and used to make two fraudulent purchases at the nearby Asda.
I am glad to share with you that the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised a total of three charges against the suspect.
Jayne Tunstead, aged 52, of No Fixed Abode, has been charged with one count of Burglary and two counts of Fraud by False Representation. She has been remanded to appear at Stockport Magistrate's Court on Monday (today).
There is potential the case could be dealt with at Crown Court after today's hearing, which could mean a more significant sentence if Jayne is found guilty.
I am very pleased that we were able to apprehend this suspect within minutes of the offence taking place, return the stolen property to the victim and secure these significant charges. We also have Asda security to thank for playing a huge part - without their quick actions the suspect may have escaped and we could have potentially lost crucial evidence.
We have now completed our investigation and secured three charges - now it's down to the wider criminal justice system to take over. I can only hope the victim receives justice for this case.
There is no absolutely no excuse for this type of behaviour. Serious acquisitive crimes like this, that directly impact members of our community both financially and psychologically, have no place in any town - especially not in Stockport.
I will update you all with the progress of the case.
All the best,
Will
