We’re issuing advice to residents around doorstep selling.

Also known as cold calling or canvassing, doorstep selling involves unsolicited sales pitches being made at your home without prior arrangement. 

Sellers, known as ‘Nottingham Knockers’, often state that they are on a rehabilitation course after being released from prison and are selling household items to try and make a better life. They often display fake ID cards and attempt to sell poor quality items at vastly inflated prices. 

However, the probation services do not run such schemes, and we’d encourage people not to engage with unauthorised sellers.

If you receive an unexpected knock at the door, our advice would be to check who is there and what they are there for before opening it. 
Politely refuse to engage with sellers and do not feel pressured to buy anything or offer money. 

If you feel intimidated or threatened, please contact police.
