South Elmsall and Upton residents – Check your garage security

Good afternoon

Two garage burglaries have been reported in South Elmsall and Upton. They occurred in the early hours of Tuesday 06 May at Mill Lane, South Elmsall and at Dorman Avenue, Upton. An attempt garage burglary was also reported on Lonsborough Way, South Elmsall.

Stolen property included an orange KTM Enduro motorbike and a Dedacciai pedal cycle. 

Please take a minute to check your current security on both garages and sheds and also think about what you store inside.

Please consider:

Door defenders/garage door blocker –  For up and over doors think about a garage defender. This is a T bar shaped floor mounted lock and a quality locking device. Look for Sold Secure approved defenders. These are also a visual deterrent. 

If your garage has windows to the side consider covering the glass to prevent offenders from being able to see the contents stored inside.

If you have a household alarm fitted think about extending the system into the garage area or use a stand alone/battery operated sensor alarm.

Think about heavy duty chains and padlocks for your motorbike and secure them to a ground anchor.

Lock large items together – makes it harder for them to be removed in bulk.

Security marking/Forensic marking – to improve the chances of getting them back in the event of loss or theft.
