Always call 999 in an emergency. Speedchecks Keeping our roads safe is an important part of policing. Speed contributes to more than half of all fatal collisions on our roads, and on average kills or injures 137 young people a week. This includes collisions where the driver was within the speed limit but driving too fast for the road conditions. We have no intention of hiding to catch those who are speeding, but instead to be seen as a visible deterrent. Officers have recently been in Danehill, carrying out routine speed checks to help: - Reduce death and injury on the roads - Improve the quality of life for local communities - Reduce the speed of vehicles to the speed limit - Increase public awareness of inappropriate speed Please, watch your speed. Evening patrols near the coast
PCSO Tilbury was out and about yesterday (8th) patrolling the areas of East Dean and Birling Gap.
Birling Gap is owned by the National Trust, and sees thousands of tourists enjoying the beautiful views annually, typically throughout the spring and summer.
We urge the public to stay safe whilst in the area. Whilst it may make for a great photo, your safety is paramount - please keep away from the cliff edges, and keep dogs on a lead.
The area is also subject to high levels of anti-social driving, and we typically see higher reports this time of year when the weather is warm.
We'd like to remind motorists to stay vigilant - the scenery may be beautiful, but there are sharp bends in the road. Please drive at a suitable speed and be mindful of other road users and pedestrians.
