Sussex Alerts - Eastbourne Police

VE Day

Remembering all those who lost their lives in conflict.

VE Day (8th May) marks 80 years since the guns fell silent in Europe as World War Two neared its end.

This VE Day, Eastbourne Police remembered all of those who lost their lives in the conflict and made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedom.

Local officers also marked a two minute silence at the Eastbourne War Memorial at midday with members of the community and those coming together to honour and remember those who lost their lives during the conflicts.

Patrols this week

Over the Bank Holiday weekend a number of hours were given to proactive police patrols across your town.

Not only in the town centre, but also in other areas of high footfall, and areas of known anti-social behaviour (ASB), including local parks and open spaces following an increase in reports of ASB.

With officer patrols aimed at offering reassurances, and a visible police presence across your town to help keep communities safe; local officers also had the opportunity to meet and speak with a large number of residents and visitors enjoying the sunshine to update on recently reported crime, as well as hear directly from communities on any issues they are facing.

Regular patrols by your local Neighbourhood Policing Teams continue through the week helping to deter crime, keep communities safe, identify suspects, and meet communities and businesses.

Residents can contact your local policing team online or by calling 101 (non-emergency) to report any community concerns, local issues or anything the team need to know about – all reports help to direct patrols, enforcement and engagement days, and helps us to help keep you feeling safe.

In an emergency / crime in action always call 999.

A predator who pretended to be a teenage boy to abuse young girls online has been jailed

Kevin Wyeth preyed on girls in group chat messages, and made threats to locate them and rape them if they did not provide indecent images. Full details here.

One victim said: “He made me feel like I could not talk to anybody.”

But now the 39-year-old is behind bars, starting a 20-year sentence for his latest 35 offences following an investigation by the Online Child Abuse Team (OCAT).

Detective Constable Gary Baker said: "Wyeth preyed on the fears of the girls to commit his crimes which have caused lasting harm to the victims.

“We remain determined to catch offenders like Wyeth and to secure justice for victims who have been abused."

Feeling unsafe on a night out?

Everyone has the right to feel safe on a night out.

Your Eastbourne Night Safety Marshals (NSM), continue to work alongside Police and local partners to help keep people safe.

Working each Friday and Saturday night between 8pm and 4am, the NSM are made up of teams of individuals who have been trained in identifying and helping vulnerable people, and are there to help provide an extra level of support on top of the extensive work already being done by Sussex Police and partner agencies to keep people safe during the night-time economy.

The marshals also complement the work of the Eastbourne Street Pastors, and schemes such as Best Bar None, bringing businesses together to work together to promote the town in a positive light.

If you or someone you know are a victim of crime or need assistance on a night out, speak to a police officer, bar staff, Street Pastor or Night Safety Marshal.

Always call 999 in an emergency.
