MELTON TOWN BEAT UPDATE

One of the aspects of local Policing that keeps us on our toes is the variety of job we deal with, and no two days are ever the same.

This week has been a real pick ‘n mix involving –

Assisting officers after a regular shoplifter who was wanted on warrant was arrested for numerous offences who earlier this week had also nipped into Morrissons to get a couple of bottles of vodka for breakfast and decided not to pay shortly before.  This then required getting the relevant CCTV and taking four statements in relation to it in quick time.  This was the first of two warrants executed this week with the in relation to the Town Beat.

The town beat then assisted officers in Oakham for the day with both local enquiries and dealing with ongoing ASB issues then back to Melton for further ongoing case work.

Town Patrols were carried out during the daytime shifts and once again enjoyed the presence of the Town Security team back on the streets of the town centre.  This partnership working has had a measurable impact on shop thefts and ASB and we look forward to many more patrols alongside them in the coming months.

Looking forward to upcoming events Town beat team along with other officers will be out and about during the forthcoming 40s weekend and the impending VE Day celebrations.  We are proud at Melton to have a few veterans within its ranks and they, having swapped green combats for Police uniforms, continue to serve the Melton community in the same way the previously served our nation.  They include ex RAF, Army and Navy including the town PCSO who is ex Black Watch, who have recently celebrated their 300th birthday.

Accordingly, we have been proud to tip our hats to the Poppy Memorial outside St Marys Church on the Town Centre beat which is decorated with a sea of handmade crocheted poppy’s. Talking of tipping we also tipped up a vehicle in the Cattle Market who was parked like a …..Ghostbuster but was unable to produce his vehicle docs or a valid MOT when spoken to.  This was of course part of the Comic con and done in the spirit of the event and included having a word with Deadpool about his attitude 😎.

And on the last day of this ‘set’ of shifts for myself I, along with a crewmate, will be making further town patrols this evening.  Enjoy the Bank Holiday and flying the flag which Melton always does so well.
