Theft of Tools from Garage - Fownhope

In the days leading up to April 28th, a number of gardening tools, valued at approximately £700, were stolen from a garage adjoining a property in Fownhope. It is believed the theft occurred while the homeowner was carrying out garden maintenance and the garage was left open. At this stage, it appears to have been an opportunistic theft rather than a targeted incident.

It’s unfortunate that the homeowner had their tools stolen, and this incident serves as a timely reminder for all of us to ensure good security measures are in place. Sadly, there are individuals who take advantage of opportunities like these, so it's important that we stay vigilant and take steps to protect our homes and belongings.

🔒 Crime Prevention Advice

- Secure doors and windows: Ensure all external doors in your home and outbuildings have sturdy locks, and windows are closed and locked when you’re not at home.

- Install lighting: Outdoor motion-sensor lighting can act as a deterrent.

- Keep valuables out of sight: Avoid leaving items such as jewellery, electronics and expensive tools visible from windows.

- Mark your property: Use a UV pen or other property marking systems to make stolen items easier to trace.

- Consider installing CCTV – A visible camera system can deter criminals and provide evidence if needed. Even a dummy camera can act as a deterrent.

- Be a good neighbour: Keep an eye on each other’s properties and report anything unusual.
