We have taken a number of reports in the area about so called “Nottingham Knockers”. This refers to door-to-door peddlers, typically young men, who sell household goods at inflated prices, often making false claims about being part of a rehabilitation program or being ex-convicts. They are sometimes reported to be scouting properties for potential burglaries. They will start with small, cash only purchases and often then over charge for basic household items. The items are usually poor quality.
Sa Sales Tactics: They often carry large bags filled with items like tea towels, dishcloths, and dusters. They may claim to be ex-convicts or part of a probation scheme, displaying fake ID cards. They may also be aggressive, verbally abusive, or make threats if refused. Possible Links to Burglary: Some reports suggest that Nottingham Knockers may be scouting properties during their door-to-door visits, potentially identifying vulnerable targets for later burglaries. Safety Advice: It's recommended to never purchase goods from Nottingham Knockers, to be cautious about sharing personal information, and to report suspicious activity to the police. If you feel threatened, close the door and contact the police The advice is not to engage and to politely ask them to leave.
