Good morning Calderdale,
There has again been a spate of theft of infotainment systems from vehicles. This is the system that controls your cars entertainment system, satnav and some vehicle settings depending on models.
Having this stolen can come be very inconvenient as well as a large expense in repairs and a replacement system. This is a quick crime that can take place in as little as 15 seconds. This is a crime that isn't always easy to protect yourself, but you can make some small changes that will help deter offenders and potentially help identify them.
Park your car is a secure garage where possible. Parking your car in a place that is viewable from your property with good lighting is advised. CCTV coverage is also advised as this can deter as well as help catch offenders and recover stolen goods if you do become a victim. Press the lock button on your car keys 2 times. once locks, twice sets the alarm depending on model.
All these crimes have a common MO, which is smashing the passenger windows for access. Moving your passenger chair fully forward and leaning it as close to the dashboard as possible will restrict access. I understand the inconvenience of doing this every time you leave your car, but it could be what saves you thousands of pounds.
90% of these crimes are committed on Volkswagen vehicles, primarily Golf, Tiguan, T-roc and Passat. If you own one of these vehicles, please try put some extra measures in place to try prevent yourself becoming a victim to this crime.
If you have any information around any crime relating to the above, please get in contact via this post, crime stoppers or 101. All information helps build a bigger picture to stopping these offenders.
Thank you
