🚨 Theft of roof Tents/TentBox 🚨

We have seen a spate of thefts of roof tents/TentBoxes across the county. We have received 6 reports of thefts of roof tents across the county, with all of these being stolen from vehicles parked outside their home address. We are asking for extra vigilance and increased security and I have added some tips on keeping your property safe.

  • Security nuts: We recommend installing the security nuts, which make it difficult for thieves to remove the mounting brackets without specialist tools.

  • Security alarm: Then there’s the security alarm for your roof tent/TentBox which is triggered by any unauthorised movement or tampering, creating an audible deterrent.

  • Security kit: You can enhance protection even further with the data security kit. This tags your roof tent/TentBox with a code, allowing the authorities to track and recover it in case of theft.

  • Removal and storage: Where possible remove the roof tent/TentBox and store in a safe location if applicable.

  • CCTV and Dash Cameras. If you can fit these devices these can also deter criminals.

  • Make sure it’s insured

Like any valuable item, you might want to consider insuring your roof tent/TentBox against theft or damage. There are several options available for your peace of mind.

  • Camping insurance: There are various insurance companies who specialise in such items.

  • Home insurance: Most home insurance policies cover items taken out of the home, such as your mobile phone or laptop, so it’s worth giving them a call to check if your roof tent/TentBox can also be covered.

  • Motor insurance: Contacting your vehicle insurance provider will give you all the information you need regarding whether or not a roof tent/TentBox can be covered under your policy.

  • Park in secure areas

When you're not camping, it’s a good idea to find a secure place to park, such as a designated car park or areas covered by CCTV. The more visible your car and roof tent/TentBox are, the less attractive they become to potential thieves, so well-lit, busy areas are also a good option.
