StreetWatch - what was discussed last night

Dear Mahmood,

Thanks so much for meeting with me last night, it was a real pleasure to meet you.

Here is a recap of the coordinators responsibilities -

Welcome all new members to the group, show them the ropes, take them for their first walk and remind them of the commitment to patrol for at least two hours every month – it is worth you both writing a list of things to discuss with new members that is relevant to your group as every group is different.

Ensure that members understand the correct process for reporting crime / anti-social behaviour.

Ensure all members know how to use the portal so every member can plan walks at different times of day so there’s lots of coverage in the area. Try not to have two big walks every month where every member attends and the walk lasts an hour, more walks with fewer members is the best way to have an impact in your area and recruit more members.

Please don’t be tempted to take complete control and arrange every walk, it just doesn’t work in the long term, you need all members to be active and helping to arrange patrols otherwise if you leave the group will fold.

To collect jackets from members leaving the group ready for the PCSO to collect from you on the monthly patrol.

Contact members who have not patrolled in a four-week period

Refer any members who have not patrolled for eight weeks to the PCSO.

Refer any members who have not patrolled for 12 weeks to Sam O’Dell.

Arrange the joint monthly patrol with the PCSO for the group, sorry I forgot to mention this. Charlie will send you her shifts around the 25th for the first two weeks of the month. If you can get back to her in a day or two to book the joint walk. The reason we only give two weeks is so if we have to cancel for some reason, there is still plenty of time left in the month to rearrange.

I always recommend that members take StreetWatch leaflets with them when they are patrolling so anyone you meet that shows can interest can be given one. This has the information on how to join as well as information about StreetWatch. You can ask you PCSO for these.

Our commitment to you is – Charlie will check the portal weekly, once a month leave feedback on the portal which you will then receive an email with, Charlie will attend a monthly patrol with you.

Regards Sam
