Keeping Our Community Safe: Understanding the Impact of Drugs

Your local police team is committed to ensuring our community is a safe and thriving place for everyone. We want to talk openly about the impact that drugs, drug use, and drug dealing have on our neighbourhood. These activities can lead to increased crime, anti-social behaviour, and can deeply affect the well-being of our residents.

The Ripple Effect:

Drug dealing isn't a victimless crime. It can bring:

  • Increased Crime: Often linked to theft, burglary, and even violent offences.
  • Anti-Social Behaviour: Including noise disturbances, littering of drug paraphernalia, and intimidation.
  • Harm to Individuals: Drug use can have devastating consequences for individuals and their families.
  • A Climate of Fear: Making our community feel less safe and secure.
  • Spotting the Signs of Drug Dealing:

Being aware of what to look for can make a real difference. Some potential indicators include:

  • Frequent visitors to a property at unusual hours, often staying for short periods.
  • Multiple cash transactions taking place outside a property or in vehicles.
  • Increased vehicle or foot traffic to a particular address, especially at odd times.
  • Windows of a property constantly covered or curtains always drawn.
  • Strange smells emanating from a property.
  • Discarded drug paraphernalia such as small bags, needles, or burnt foil in the vicinity.
  • Individuals appearing nervous or secretive.
  • How You Can Help - Reporting to Your Local Police:

Your information, no matter how small it may seem, can be crucial in helping us tackle drug-related issues in our community. You can report your concerns in the following ways:

  • Non-emergency: Call us on 101.
  • Online Reporting: Visit our force website Home | Humberside Police. You can find a specific section for reporting crime or anti-social behaviour.
  • In an Emergency: If you believe a crime is in progress or someone is in immediate danger, always call 999.
  • Crimestoppers: If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit their website: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/. They are independent of the police and will not ask for your name.
  • Working Together for a Safer Community:

We understand that reporting suspicious activity can be concerning, but please be assured that all information is treated with discretion and helps us build a clearer picture of what's happening in our area. By working together, we can make our community a safer and more pleasant place for everyone.

Thank you for being vigilant and for your support.
