Arrests made in connection with Hatfield murder investigation


A 16-year-old boy from Hatfield has been arrested this morning (Tuesday 25 March) as part of an investigation into the death of a man in Hatfield town centre. 

The boy was arrested at a location in London at 4am following enquiries made by detectives. He was arrested on suspicion of murder however is currently in hospital receiving treatment.

A 35-year-old woman, also from Hatfield, has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. She is in police custody at this time.  

The arrests follow an investigation by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit into an incident on Sunday (23 March). 

At 1.11pm police received reports of an altercation involving two males at the disused bus stop near Jetliner Way and Parkhouse Court. A man aged in his 20s sustained stab wounds and sadly died at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardner said: “We continue to investigate this incident and would urge anyone who knows anything about it, but who has not yet spoken to police, to contact us as soon as possible.” 

Welwyn Hatfield Chief Inspector Pete Frost added: “I hope news of these two arrests will help provide some reassurance to the local community following Sunday’s incident.

“We have stepped up patrols in and around Hatfield town centre, and if you have any concerns then please do speak to our officers who are there to help. The investigation continues at pace and enquiries are ongoing.”
