Crime alert

We have received reports of counterfeit bank notes being circulated in our community. 

A business in Cirencester was scammed on 15/03/2025. The suspects used £50 notes to purchase one low value item. They suspects are described as white males Early 20s to early 30s wearing grey tracksuits and black jackets Please remain vigilant when handling cash transactions, especially larger denomination bills. Some advice below. 

• Carefully inspect all bank notes for security features such as watermarks, holograms, and texture.

• Use counterfeit detection tools, including UV lights and pen markers.

• Be cautious of large bills being used for small purchases. You may want to decline large denominations if they seem suspicious.

If you come across a suspected fake note, do not accept it, and notify police.
