Ifor Williams trailers are popular targets of thieves due to their high value and ease of resale. To reduce the risk of theft, consider the following security measures: 1. Physical Security Measures • Wheel Clamps – Use heavy-duty wheel clamps to make it difficult for thieves to tow the trailer away. • Hitch Locks – Fit a high-quality hitch lock to prevent the trailer from being easily hitched to another vehicle. • Chassis or Coupling Locks – These prevent the trailer from being moved even if the hitch is compromised. • Removable Hitch – If possible, remove the trailer’s hitch when it’s not in use to prevent unauthorized towing. • Security Posts – Install a heavy-duty ground anchor or security post to physically block the trailer from being moved.
2. Parking and Storage • Secure Location – Store the trailer in a locked garage, yard, or behind a secure gate. • Block Access – Park another vehicle in front of the trailer or back it up against a wall to make it harder to move. • Use CCTV – Install security cameras and signage to deter thieves. • Lighting – Keep the area well-lit to reduce the risk of night-time theft.
3. Identification and Marking • Security Marking – Engrave or stamp the trailer’s chassis with a unique identification number or your postcode. • Datatag or CESAR System – Use forensic marking systems like Datatag or CESAR to make your trailer traceable. • Hidden Tracking Devices – Install a GPS tracker so you can locate the trailer if it’s stolen.
Thanks for your time.
