Need help with a consumer issue?
Are you dealing with a problem related to a purchase or service? Contact Citizens Advice https://citizensadvicerutland.org.uk/. Citizens Advice provide free, confidential and impartial advice. Whether it's broken or faulty goods, issues with energy or postal services, their advisers can provide practical and impartial advice on how to resolve your consumer problems.
Contact Citizens Advice consumer helpline: 0808 223 1133 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm). If you prefer, you can also chat with their adviser's online.
What they can help with:
Understanding your consumer rights. Providing guidance on how to handle complaints. Passing information to Trading Standards.
Reporting to Trading Standards: If you think a business has broken the law or acted unfairly, you can report them to Trading Standards. They investigate unfair trading and illegal business activities, such as rogue traders and scams. While they can't help you get a refund, they can take businesses to court or stop them from operating.
Report to Trading Standards if a business:
Sold you something unsafe or dangerous. Sold fake goods. Misrepresented a product or service. Pressured you into buying something. Scammed you or tried to stop you from using your legal rights.
Licensing Complaints:
If you have concerns about a business or individual operating without the proper licenses, or acting in such a way in breach of their license, you can also report this via Citizens Advice as well. Licensing complaints can include issues like unlicensed trading, breaches of licensing conditions, or operating without the necessary permits. These complaints are taken seriously and can lead to investigations and enforcement actions to ensure compliance.
