Kent Police have noted an increase in pedal cycle thefts in the areas immediately surrounding Sevenoaks train station. Between July 2024 and January 2025, 23 bikes—both electric and traditional—have been reported stolen from the two beat codes either side of the train station. The stolen bikes, some valued at thousands of pounds, have predominantly been high-end electric and traditional road racing models. Police Action Kent Police have already taken steps to address the rise in pedal cycle thefts. Foot patrols will be increased in areas where the thefts are concentrated, particularly around repeat locations, during the times the offences have occurred. Some investigations are still ongoing, with officers reviewing CCTV footage and sharing relevant images to aid in identifying suspects. Police are also liaising with neighbouring forces, including British Transport Police, to explore any cross-border links that may exist. Crime Prevention Advice: Protect Your Pedal Cycle To help reduce the number of bike thefts, Kent Police are offering the following crime prevention advice: Always lock your bike, even when left unattended for just a few minutes. Use a high-quality D-lock or chain and secure both the frame and wheels.Avoid leaving your bike in poorly lit or secluded areas. Always park it in well-lit, busy places, ideally within secure bike storage or locked facilities.Consider registering your bike with The National Cycle Database | BikeRegister a recognised bike register and also marking it with a unique identifier. This will make it easier to recover your bike if stolen.Stay vigilant.
