Portobello Drugs Arrests 17/01/2025

Dear Resident,

As a result of live time information from the local community, on Friday 17th January, officers from Wakefield Central East Neighbourhood Police Team obtained an emergency out of hours warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. The information received suggested that children were drug dealing in the area and that the supply of drugs was occurring at an address in the Portobello area of Wakefield.

The warrant was granted by the Magistrates’ Court with authorisation to enter and search the address. At 22:05 hours it was “strike strike strike” and the officers executed the warrant with assistance from Specialist Support Officers and Wakefield District Patrol.

Entry was successfully gained and whilst searching the address, officers located a significant amount of what was suspected to be class A drugs, believed to be crack cocaine and heroin from the toilet. They also found a quantity of cash and a police baton as well as what is suspected to be cannabis.

A 47-year-old female and a 15-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of:

Possession with intent to supply class A crack cocaine and heroin
Possession of an offensive weapon in a private dwelling
Possession of a class B drug- cannabis

The arrested pair were taken into custody where they were interviewed by colleagues from Wakefield CID. Both were later released with strict bail conditions whilst further enquiries are carried out.
