Dear Resident
On 30/12/2024 between 01:35 to 30/12/2024 01:38 a burglary took place on Byron Avenue.
OFFENDER(S) HAVE FORCED ENTRY TO THE PROPERTY THROUGH THE PVC FRONT DOOR WHICH WAS NOT LOCKED. THEY HAVE BEEN DISTURBED BY THE OCCUPANTS OF THE ADDRESS WHO WERE HOME AT THE TIME. ONE OFFENDER WEARING A FACE COVERING HAS GRABBED SOME KEYS, INCLUDING CAR KEYS, WHICH WERE HANGING IN THE HALLWAY, AND MADE OFF OUT OF THE ADDRESS. A SECOND SUSPECT WAS WAITING OUTSIDE ON A MOTORBIKE. VICTIM HAS LEFT THE ADDRESS TO GO AFTER THEM AND NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS ON THEIR VEHICLE WERE ON AND THE DOOR OPEN. OFFENDERS HAVE MADE OFF ON THE MOTORCYCLE AND VICTIM HAS CHASED THEM DOWN THE ROAD BUT DID NOT MANAGE TO ID A VEHICLE INDEX FOR THE MOTORBIKE. DURING H2H ENQUIRIES THE KEYS WERE FOUND UNDER A NEIGHBOURING VEHICLE AND RETURNED TO THE VICTIM.

Tips to prevent burglary:
Check downstairs windows and doors are securely locked before you leave or go to bed. Secure UPVC doors by lifting the handle and locking it to engage the security features. Don’t leave keys, phones or other valuables on windowsills or in any other visible place. Securely lock rear gates, sheds and garages. Keep tools and ladders locked away, as they could be used to break into your home. Use laminate glass where possible for any rear doors or windows. If this is not practicable, consider the use of security film over existing windows. Use a “Fake TV” or timer switches on lamps to give the impression someone is at home. Consider using a doorbell camera, interior camera, or a monitored burglar alarm. Consider adding trellis to any side or rear boundaries to add extra height up to a maximum of 2 metres.
