Officers from the Gateshead West Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out a traffic operation in the Ryton area yesterday.  Thankfully in a 2 hour period no one was stopped driving excessively over the speed limit however ten vehicles were stopped and given words of advice in regards to their speed.  It became apparent that other road users were signalling on coming drivers of our presence, which is an offence to alert other drivers to speed cameras or police vehicles could also be a breach of Section 89 of the Police Act 1997, which carries a maximum penalty of £1,000.  The public who stopped and engaged with ourselves were understanding and welcomed the Operation.
