Are your garages secure?

Good afternoon,

We are making you aware of an incident whereby 3 detached garages have been broken into on Fairstead on 2/5/2024 between 01:00 and 03:00am.

We are asking everyone in the Birch Green area to be vigilant, to check any cctv they may have of this incident and to check that their garages are locked. It would also help if a physical barrier is in front of the garage - this could be a vehicle or other barrier - to deter offenders.

If you have any valuable items or tools in your garage, then we recommend putting them inside your home in a secure place or in a safe.

We also recommend the following security measures on/ near your garage to act as deterrents:

Garage door defenders to prevent the door being lifted. Garage door defenders are easy to fit and provide a visible deterrent.

CCTV

Lighting

If you have a house alarm system, consider connecting the garage to the system, especially if it’s attached to the house.

A locksmith registered with the Master Locksmiths Association can provide expert advice on the best type of garage door security, as well as install any security products correctly.

Officers will also be in the area to provide a highly visible presence and deter offenders. Officers will also reassure local residents and the community.
